SPU Outfall 174 Hydraulic Design Analysis
Principal, Tony Dubin, worked collaboratively with Seattle Public Utilities staff on the analysis and design of pipe, weir and gate structures that direct wastewater flows in the Fremont neighborhood to the North Interceptor, Ship Canal tunnel or CSO outfall. The work involved detailed hydraulic modeling and design integration, such as suggesting diversion structure design configurations, creating SWMM models of each design alternative, conducting long-term simulations, computing performance statistics, assisting SPU with decision-making for facility designs, and reviewing engineering design sheets. The project evaluated the long-term effects of climate change on the design’s hydraulic performance. The modeling and design outcomes were coordinated with the Ship Canal team designing the downstream tunnel drop structure and presented modeling results to SPU staff.
